Academics
At its core, Prestonwood Christian Academy’s strong liberal arts program, where students learn to think, marshal evidence, and weigh the relative merits of different factors before committing to a plan of action, is based upon developing the whole child in the spirit of “Jesus growing in wisdom, stature, favor with God and favor with man…” The PK3 through Twelfth Grade vertically aligned curriculum is rigorous and designed to evoke critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and written and verbal communication of original thought in order to develop 21st Century thinking for life beyond the classroom. Since all knowledge is rooted in God’s truth and His creation, it is logical that PCA’s academics program integrates biblical truth and worldview training allowing students to understand the connection between academic content and God’s world. Learning is fostered through students wrestling with big ideas and innovative teaching that considers each individual student’s learning needs, technology integration, relationship development and opportunities for relevant extension of the classroom beyond the school facility itself to the community and indeed the world.
Becoming articulate communicators in an ever-changing world is part of the learning process at PCA. A natural component of the curriculum emphasizes the integration of critical thinking and research skills via avenues such as public speaking in order to further equip students for future professional leadership roles. Programming opportunities such as Stand Up and Be Heard, Student Leadership Institute and more, further emphasize the importance of developing the art of communication.
PCA teachers and faculty are among the top educators in the nation. With almost half of our staff holding advanced degrees in their field of study, many PCA teachers also hold additional certifications on top of their teaching credentials which further enhance classroom instruction. The training strand for faculty, or the PCA Staff Institute, is hailed by Independent School Management (ISM) as one of the top in the country and serves to encourage teachers to incorporate not only current best practices but some time-honored instructional practices into the classroom as well.
By providing a wealth of opportunities in a nurturing environment that encourages students to take risks as they learn, Prestonwood Christian Academy encourages the pursuit of excellence in all things for God’s greater glory. It is our privilege to assist parents in preparing the next generation of students for success beyond PCA in order to impact generations yet to come!
