One of the most distinctive elements of Prestonwood Christian Academy is the school’s intentional focus on developing a biblical worldview. These efforts in developing a biblical worldview are not limited to the students, but also extend to the faculty and parents as well. While other schools may talk about the importance of a biblical worldview, PCA is intentional about making sure students, staff and parents are given opportunities to engage in the hard thinking necessary to learn how to think critically and Christianly about the world around them.
As an essential element of this effort, PCA became the first school in the nation to create a position specifically for a Worldview Director. A Christian attorney and former Vice President of Legal and Public Policy for one of the nation’s largest family advocate groups, Mr. Dan Panetti serves the PCA community in this capacity. Yet the effort to incorporate a biblical worldview into every fiber of PCA is much broader than just one person or one position – every teacher is, in effect, a biblical worldview director for their classroom or their subject and every administrator serves in this capacity as well. As Nehemiah required that each family build up their area of the wall, so to each faculty member at PCA is responsible to build up and guard the biblical integration of their subject and activity.
In addition to biblically integrating into subject matter in every class, PCA also utilizes several intentional elements to further train in biblical worldview. From our Biblical Worldview Institute includes a four-day training seminar covering such categories as Christian Ethics, Christian Heritage, Christian Mindset/Discernment, Creation vs. Evolution, Current Cultural Trends, Doctrine, Law and Government, and Leadership. Each November as part of the ongoing training for our faculty and new staff training, “Making the Connection”, using the BWI Planner (created by Christian Overman and Don Johnson), to Student Leadership Institute program, Lion’s Scholar Program, as well as the Future Problem Solvers program, there are various opportunities for faculty to train PCA students in biblical worldview.
But biblical worldview training isn’t just for students and faculty here at PCA, it’s for parents, also. Each month a parent enewsletter, Counter Culture, is sent to the parent body covering worldview-related topics written by the Worldview Director. The annual Biblical Worldview Institute (BWi) training sessions offered in November are also open for parents to attend to hear some of the top thinkers on a variety of topics. Furthermore, PCA has partnered with the nation’s top worldview training academies to offer opportunities for adult training as well – Summit Ministries in Colorado Springs, CO has a one-week adult training seminar especially for parents looking to deepen their biblical worldview understanding. Several times each year the Worldview Director selects books to read and discuss with parents.
Lastly, PCA reaches out to families through offering a Family Mission Trip that parents and students can participate in together. Prestonwood Christian Academy has partnered with Sky Ranch to offer a family camping experience second to none at the Sky Ranch location in Colorado. Dr. Taylor offers his Kingdom Parenting seminar during several weeks of the Sky Ranch summer Family Camp calendar open exclusively to PCA families looking to connect as a family and further their intentional family spiritual plans.
PCA in conjunction with the Life and Leadership Institute (LLI) courses offered at Prestonwood Baptist Church and the PBC Women’s Ministry, have several opportunities each year to take classes with an intentional parenting and worldview focus.
