Julius Randle to participate in 3 Elite National games in April!

Wednesday, April 3, McDonald's All-American Game, 6 PM at the United Center in Chicago, IL.  This game will be televised at 9:30 ET on ESPN.

- Saturday, April 13, Jordan Brand Classic, Brooklyn, NY.  This game will be televised at 8 PM ET on ESPN 2.  

- Saturday, April 20, Nike Hoop Summit, Rose Garden, Portland, OR.  This game will be played at 4 PM PDT.  


Julius Randle anounces his plans to play at the University of Kentucky!

On Wednesday, March 20, Julius Randle announced that he will continue his basketball career at the University of Kentucky as a Wildcat.  He was able to make this announcement from the PCA Field House live on ESPNU.  This was an exciting day for Randle and the PCA Community!

Julius Randle named to McDonald's All-American game roster!

On Wednesday, March 6, Julius Randle was named to the McDonald's All-American Roster.  The game will be held at the United Center in Chicago on April 3rd and will be televised on ESPN at 9:30 PM ET.  Congratulations Julius!

National Signing Day on February 6!

Four Prestonwood Athletes signed to play sports at the next level on National Signing Day.  Mike Mitchell signed with Ohio State University to play football, JP Coward signed with Oklahoma Baptist University to play football and run track, Zach Missimo signed with the US Air Force Academy to play football and Tristan Mazzu signed with Ouachita Baptist University to play soccer.  Congratulations to these four athletes!

Julius Randle selected to play in Nike Hoop Summit

Julius Randle has been selected by US Basketball to play in the Nike Hoop Summit, which is the nation's premier high school basketball game.  It will be played on April  20, 2013 at the Rose Garden in Portland, OR.

Mike Mitchell Plays in US Army All American Bowl

Mike Mitchell played in the US Army All-American Bowl on January 5, 2013, where on live, national TV he announced his committment to play at Ohio State University for his collegiate career! 

Katie Staiger and Brett France sign on National Signing Day

Katie Staiger and Brett France were honored by Prestonwood Christian Academy on November 14, as they both signed letters of intent to play sports at the collegiate level.  Katie has received a scholarship to play volleyball at Baylor University and Brett has received a scholarship to play lacrosse at Providence College.  

PCA Places in Two Events in TAPPS State Track Meet

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s powerhouse Varsity Boys’ Basketball team (27-4) finished their 2011-12 season ranked among the top ten teams in the country in three national polls:

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Varsity Baseball team hosted its eighth annual Brett Cowart Invitational Baseball Tournament this past weekend at Prestonwood’s Graham Field and three other fields in the area. Prestnwood Christian's Varsity Baseball Team Hosts Eighth Annual Brett Cowart Invitational Tournament

Proceeds from Tournament to Benefit Family of Coach Wade McLain

Prestonwood Christian Academy‘s Varsity Baseball team will host the eighth annual Brett Cowart Invitational Baseball Tournament this weekend at Prestonwood’s Graham Field and three other fields in the area. With sixteen teams from across the metroplex competing for the 2012 championship trophy, the Brett Cowart tournament has a history of honoring God while celebrating the great game of baseball. Play begins on Thursday, February 23, and will run through Saturday evening, February 25.  

The Brett Cowart Invitational is named after Prestonwood dad Brett Cowart, an avid baseball fan who lost his battle with cancer in 2003.

 This 2012 tournament will hold special meaning to the Prestonwood family, as it will be dedicated to the honor of Prestonwood’s former Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach Wade McLain, who passed away last August ... Click here for full story

 

PCA's Julius Randle Advances to Final Round of Voting in the ESPNHS Fans' Choice Player of the Year Award

Julius Randle, one of Prestonwood Christian Academy’s junior basketball standouts and the ESPN #2 ranked player in the class of 2013, has advanced to the final round of voting for the ESPNHS Fans’ Choice Player of the Year award.

Randle is now paired with his friend, Rodney Purvis, a shooting guard from Upper Room Christian Academy in North Carolina, who is ranked by ESPN as #20 in the Class of 2012. “I’m not only happy to be in the finals, but happy to be in it with my good friend Rodney,” Julius said. “I’m going to miss him playing in the EYBL [Elite Youth Basketball League] this summer. PCA Varsity Boys Basketball Team Wins Second State Championship in Three Years

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Varsity Boys Basketball won the TAPPS 5A State Basketball Championship game last Saturday at Summit High School in Arlington, defeating John Paul II High School 72-46 to earn their second State Championship in three years.

“We had fun and played a great game, we’re very happy for each other,” said Prestonwood’s Head Coach Chris Mayberry.  “I thought that we took care of the ball well and capitalized on some key turnovers.  We played together as a team and shared the ball, with something like 20 assists in each of the semifinal and final games.

“John Paul played well, too, and did a good job of executing their game plan,” Mayberry continued.  “Their play was very methodical, they were a strong opponent.” ... Click here for full story

  

Prestonwood Christian's Varsity Swim Team Posts Huge Wins on their Way to TAPPS State Swim Meet

In a season of amazing highlights, the Prestonwood Christian Academy Lions Swim team roared through the TAPPS North Region Championships on their way to the TAPPS 5A State Championship Swim Meet beginning today in San Antonio. All 15 swimmers on the team had personal best swims, including 41 personal best times, five team records, and four individual state qualifiers. PCA Basketball Standout Zach Peters Nominated for 2012 McDonald's All-American Games

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Division I-bound basketball player Zach Peters has been nominated for the 2012 McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Games.  Peters is one of 600 High School male and female athletes nominated from across the country for this 35th annual event.  There were 19 boys’ basketball players nominated from the State of Texas ... Varsity Boys Basketball Partners with TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation

As basketball season winds down for the Prestonwood Christian Varsity Boys team, the players reflect not only on the strong work ethic that has carried them through their season, but the purpose that has guided them both on and off the court.
 
“We had several goals this year,” said Prestonwood’s Varsity Head Coach Chris Mayberry. “One goal was to work hard and play our best, and another was to make the season purposeful. We have been blessed to have had a successful season in both of these areas.”
 
A successful season is correct. The Lions have a 25-4 record,are 12-0 in district play, and are currently ranked by ESPN as the #13 team in the nation. They have had the opportunity to play and defeat other nationally ranked teams such as Upper Room Christian from North Carolina and Grace Preparatory Academy from Arlington in the acclaimed City of Palms Classic in Florida.
 
And while the Lions are strong competitors on the court, they are equally as passionate about a cause that is near to their heart. The Prestonwood Christian boys’ basketball program has partnered with the TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation to raise awareness of children’s cancer and the research needed to find a cure for this disease ... Prestonwood Christian's Julius Randle in the Final Four of Voting for the ESPNHS Fans' Choice Player of the Year Award

Julius Randle, one of Prestonwood Christian Academy’s junior basketball standouts, has advanced to the second round of voting in the ESPNHS Fans’ Choice Player of the Year award.

ESPNHS recruited eight of the nation’s leading high school boys’ basketball players and gave them a platform to display their skills and personalities to determine who would be the most popular among basketball fans.  The contenders campaigned on the ESPNHS.com/FansChoice website, where Randle was first paired against Gabe York, a shooting guard from Orange Lutheran in California.  Randle won that first match up, which ended in mid-January, and has now moved on to the second round of voting ... PCA Lionettes are National Champions

The Lionettes won the National Championship title for the small team division at the largest dance/drill competition in the country, the American Dance/Drill Team National/International Competition at UNT last Saturday. Congratulations to Captain, Bailey Watts, and Miranda Aman for their award-winning contemporary duo!

 

Prestonwood Christian's Competitive Cheer Team Wins Second Place at the 2012 NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championship

Excitement was in the air, nerves were on end, and bows were tied tightly as Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Competitive Cheerleading team took the floor last Saturday at the 2012 NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championship.

Held at the Dallas Convention Center, the team has participated in this National Cheerleaders Association competition for years, but always in the Advanced Private School division.  This year was different, as the Private School division at Nationals no longer exists.  For the first time since it began competing, Prestonwood contended with both public and private schools in the Large Advanced High School division.

Along with the Elite 11 quarterback camp, NIKE held its first NIKE Football Training Camp of the year at the Cowboys' practice facility in Las Colinas.

Arizona Coach Recruits Prestonwood's Morgan in a Unique Way

Plano (Texas) Prestonwood Christian Academy tight end Christian Morgan is one of the most promising prospects at his position in the Class of 2013. The 6-foot-4 junior is a versatile threat, equally able to throw huge blocks on the corner or cut down field for passes.

As one might expect, that versatility and Morgan's athleticism has drawn the interest of a number of different collegiate programs. Varsity Boys Basketball Team Set to Compete in Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's 2012 Spalding Hoophall Classic

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Varsity Boys Basketball team (ranked #19 by ESPN) is scheduled to play Oak Hill Academy (ranked #2 by ESPN) in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2012 Spalding Hoophall Classic on Saturday, January 14.

Played in Springfield, Massachusetts, the home of basketball, this game will tip off at    6:00 p.m. (EST) at Springfield College’s Blake Arena and will be broadcast on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV).

Four PCA Students Honored as Finalists for Christian Athlete of the Year

PCA is proud to recognize four students who were honored by Lay Witnesses for Christ as Semi-Finalists in the State of Texas for Christian Athlete of the Year: Mitch Freeman, Christian McLain, Rachel Dingler and Michaela Pendley.

Mitch was announced as one of the top ten finalists and was honored to have Carl Lewis award him his medal.

Congratulations to these fine student-athletes for your witness for Christ! 

 

Prestonwood Christian's Varsity Boys' Basketball Team Wins Prestigious "City of Palms Classic" Tournament

Head Coach Chris Mayberry Presented with the "Steve Bumm Memorial Coaching Award"

Prestonwood Christian’s Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated Arlington’s Grace Preparatory Academy 62-42 to win the Championship of the City of Palms Classic tournament in Fort Myers, Florida. The City of Palms Classic is considered the premiere high school boys’ basketball tournament in the nation (rated #1 by Max Preps).

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Athletics program has seen many remarkable things happen in its 15-year history, but playing basketball on national television was a first.

The Lions’ Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was invited by ESPN and the Paragon Marketing Group to play Arlington’s Grace Preparatory Academy on ESPNU last Thursday night at Lewisville High School.  The game was part of the “2011-12 GEICO ESPNU High School Basketball Showcase” that will highlight 16 high school games from across the country over the next two months ... Prestonwood Christian Academy's Anthony Morgan Announces His Intent to Play Football for The University of Iowa

Morgan Honored to be a Hawkeye

Anthony Morgan, Prestonwood Christian Academy’s senior strong safety, announced his intent to play football for The University of Iowa yesterday afternoon.

At a ceremony hosted by family and friends, Morgan thanked God for blessing him with the talent to play football. He also thanked his parents for being his biggest fans, and his coaches for being a tremendous influence in his life. Morgan gave a special thank you to Prestonwood’s former Defensive Coordinator, Coach Wade McLain, who collapsed on the first day of football practice and died later that evening. “Coach McLain had a huge impact on my life,” Morgan said. “I know that he’s looking down on me and that he’s proud of me right now.” ... ESPN recognized Prestonwood Christian Academy’s senior quarterback Parker Ash as one of the ESPNHS Football Players of the Week for his outstanding game last Friday vs. John Paul II. Coming off of a rain-soaked victory last week, the Prestonwood Christian Academy Lions will host the John Paul II Cardinals tonight at Lions Stadium with kickoff at 7:30pm. Head Coach Chris Cunningham said that this week’s practice emphasized sharpening up and executing at a high level. “John Paul II is on a roll right now,” said Cunningham. He said that the Cardinals have huge numbers offensively and are much improved over last year. “Their quarterback is one of the best in the area,” he said, “We are going to have to execute a variety of different attacks and go into the game locked in to be the best team we can be.” ... A Goal to Achieve:  Prestonwood Christian Travels to Dallas Christian, Attempts to Defeat Chargers on their Home Turf

As Prestonwood Christian Academy travels to Dallas Christian tonight, they have a goal to achieve that has eluded them in the past. The Lions hope to defeat the Chargers on their home turf, a feat they’ve never before accomplished. “This will be a big challenge for us,” head coach Chris Cunningham said. “DC is very physical and can throw the ball well. They had a young team last year, but they are much improved. Prestonwood Christian Varsity Volleyball a Powerhouse this Season

The Prestonwood Christian Academy varsity volleyball team’s season is in full swing and has showed itself strong in district play. With several scrimmages and games under their belt, the Lions have proven how solid and deep their talent is this season. They won several pre-season and non-district games 3-0, then defeated both John Paul II and Liberty Christian in three in district play. Prestonwood Christian Faces Tough Loss against Celina, Honors Memory of Coach Wade McLain

Prestonwood Christian Academy faced a tough loss in their game vs. Celina last Friday night as Celina defeated the TAPPS Division I Champions 33-34. “We had an opportunity to get a big win,” said PCA Head Coach Chris Cunningham, “but I’m very proud of how our kids played the game.” Prestonwood Christian had 329 passing yards and gave up no yardage on only one penalty throughout the game.
